WhatsApp Messenger is a popular app on the Windows Phone platform, among other platforms. Recently, the popular service revealed that they have over 400 million monthly active users. So it comes as no surprise that new features and improvements are being made and will soon hit the public build of the app.
According to tweet by @Nawzil8, who has been accurate numerous times, WhatsApp is currently beta testing a "media autodownload" feature which allows you to automatically download audio, video, and image files from messages. Or, you can disable the auto download by default and only have it occur while connected to a WiFi connection.
This is obviously a fantastic feature for those who wish to conserve data usage while utilizing the popular app on Windows Phone. No word yet on when we will see these new features make it into the public build, but we expect it to been soon! Stay tuned!
Just be careful while using WhatsApp, as a woman from Yemen recently accused her husband for neglecting his marital duties by spending too much time using the popular app

WhatsApp is back to the Windows Phone Store, with a new version WhatsApp 2.11.490, that brings some features (present on other platform clients though) to the table.
In version 2.11.490:
- Chat backgrounds
- Broadcast lists
- Privacy settings to hide Last seen, Profile Photo and Status( Go to Settings > account > privacy )
- Media auto-download settings (Go to settings > chat Settings > media autodownload )
- Custom notification tones ( Windows Phone 8 Update 3 required )
- Various enhancements and bug fixes

New Backgrounds Chats For WhatsApp Beta On Windows Phone
We posted a few weeks ago that custom backgrounds for WhatsApp chats were on the way, as indicated by a translation task.
The beta for WhatsApp, version 376, just went out in the last few hours and it has two big changes that an anonymous tipster has passed on to us. One is a new Settings screen. Now, the Settings page is much cleaner and in line with the Modern UI principles. It certainly looks more organized. But that’s small potatoes stuff.
The big new feature that is coming is custom backgrounds for chat notifications. Found under Settings, users will be able to head into Chat Settings > Background to choose any image of their liking. Options include:
- Take a photo
- Choose from albums
- Search web
- Delete
Now the latest beta of the app has this cool feature implemented. On Windows Phone it allows you to set the image either from your own collection, by taking a picture or best of all by doing a web search from the app’s built-in search engine.
